There's so much information being thrown around all the time on the internet/social media nowadays that it's almost impossible to absorb it all. That goes for almost anything, not just diet and nutrition, but it is definitely the case for that too. I want to show you that healthy eating doesn't have to be complicated or confusing - just follow a few simple guidelines and you'll be feeling great in no time!
Protein/carbs/fat - these are the 3 main macronutrients we need to eat everyday in order for our bodies to function properly and healthily. It is important to have a variety of all three - no, you don't need to go 'low carb' or 'low fat' in order to be healthy!! Just make sure you are getting your macronutrients from good sources (at least for the majority of the time). I've posted a few examples below:
This seems like the most obvious point but it is such an important one. When you cook from scratch you'll know exactly what is in the food you are eating and you will massively reduce your consumption of preservatives and other chemicals that are put into packaged food. Not only is this a much healthier way of eating but it will also save you lots of money and your food will taste so much better! I'm always posting healthy recipes so keep an eye out and give them a go (one of my personal favourites is my prawn and pumpkin curry which is soooo easy and delicious but you can find all of my recipes here).
3) Eat the rainbow
When it comes to veggies, the more colourful the better. Why? Because the colour of the vegetable is an indicator of the vitamins and nutrients it contains. So it is important to eat a huge variety of colours.... literally eat the rainbow! And you don't always have to boil or steam your veggies because that would be super boring... I tend to mix it up between stir-frying, roasted and steaming... once again variety is important (can you see that becoming a theme here?).
As you can see, eating healthily doesn't have to be confusing or complicated. Just by following a few simple guidelines like the ones above you will be making a huge improvement to your health. If you are struggling for inspiration about what to cook then Instagram is great for this and I am always posting pictures of my food on there so check it out (@josie_eatyourselfstrong). As mentioned above, I am also posting lots of new recipes here on a weekly basis so sign up for my newsletter to make sure you don't miss out on any updates! And let me know in the comments below if you have any other suggestions of how to strip eating healthily back to basics :)
